Freiberg - Award-winning innovation: Freiberg Instruments GmbH from Freiberg (Saxony) has been awarded the TOP 100 seal for 2021. This is the 28th time that particularly innovative medium-sized companies are honored with this award. Freiberg Instruments GmbH had previously proven its innovative strength in a scientific selection process.
On behalf of compamedia, the organizer of the TOP 100 innovation competition, the innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team demonstrate the innovative strength of Freiberg Instruments. The researchers used around 120 test criteria from five categories as a basis: innovation-promoting top management, innovation climate, innovative processes and organization, external orientation / open innovation and innovation success. At its core, it is about the question of whether innovations are the result of a planned procedure or a coincidental product, i.e. the repeatability of innovation achievements. And about whether and how the corresponding solutions will establish themselves on the market (further information on the test criteria at www.top100.de). Due to the current situation, there was also a special part of this round in which the corporate reaction to the corona crisis was examined. Freiberg Instruments, the medium-sized company is now one of the top innovators for the first time.
Dr. Kay Dornich, the CEO of Freiberg Instruments, “We are at home in the microelectronics, semiconductor, chemical and medical technology industries. The company has established itself primarily in the area of special physical measurement technology for niche markets. On the one hand, for example, electron spin resonance table-top spectrometers for chemical research and dosimetry are manufactured in Freiberg. On the other hand, the area of special machine construction is continuously being expanded. At its core, it is about innovative measurement technology in combination with automation solutions for the increasing production requirements of the semiconductor industry. For example, 3/4 of the global silicon carbide manufacturers rely on crystal orientation measurement technology from Freiberg Instruments. Among other things, silicon carbide is required in the manufacture of electric vehicles. The innovative measurement options are both significantly faster and more accurate and combine more measured variables in one system than was previously possible in the market environment”.
Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, the scientific director of TOP 100, is impressed by the excellent medium-sized companies. "The TOP 100 companies have consistently aligned themselves to be as innovative as possible," he states. On November 26, 2021 there will be another reason to celebrate: Then all the winners of the current TOP 100 year will come together to receive the congratulations from Ranga Yogeshwar at the 7th German SME Summit in Ludwigsburg. The science journalist has been accompanying the innovation competition as a mentor for ten years.
TOP 100: the competition
Since 1993 compamedia has been awarding the TOP 100 seal for special innovative strength and above-average innovation success to medium-sized companies. The scientific management has been in the hands of Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke. Franke is the founder and director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. With 25 research awards and over 200 publications, he is one of the leading international innovation researchers. The mentor of TOP 100 is the science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar. Project partners are the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research and the BVMW Association of SMEs. The magazines manager magazine and impulse accompany the company comparison as media partners. More information and registration at www.top100.de.
